EVELYN MCDOWELL, PH.D.

Dr. McDowell is the President of the Board of Directors, founder, and Charter Member of Sons and Daughters of the United States Middle Passage (SDUSMP), a lineage society for descendants of individuals enslaved in the United States of America. Dr. McDowell has been researching her family for over 20 years and has identified over 35 enslaved ancestors. She is a member of the Princeton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is a frequent speaker about slavery in New Jersey, identifying enslaved ancestors, and how to join SDUSMP. She is a strong advocate for justice and commemoration for the enslaved and repair of the descendent community. She also served as the Co-Chair of Rider University’s Task Force on the History of Slavery at Rider University. She is the Chair of the Accounting Department and Associate Professor at Rider University. Dr. McDowell is also a Certified Public Accountant.
